Stress from the bad experiences, worries on future, strain from the distorted relations… thus grows the list of human miseries. Mental stress eats up our good days. Knowingly or unknowingly we add up more oil to the flame of stress in our life through the food we intake.

Everybody of us can not withdraw and meditate daily as some people do. Meditation is the best way to control and lead a balanced life. Practical difficulties prevent many of us from doing meditation in a continuous way.

Food can control the stress to a great extent. Add more fruits and vegetable to the food will help. Vegetarian food habit has positive influence to reduce the high blood pressure. The wisdom of old people says there is something in the plant food that will reduce the blood pressure. Or is it the reverse way telling that there is something lacks in plant food that adds up to the high blood pressure? Both are true.

Fruits have plenty of potassium, vitamin C and soluble fiber. Studies show that vitamin C, soluble fiber and potassium are blood pressure lowering agents. Changing the food habit by adding more vegetables and fruits will reduce the blood pressure. Many of us are addicted to the taste of meat.

Some of the vitamin C rich fruits that can be added to our daily food are gooseberry, sweet lime, garlic, celery, fish and oranges. Gooseberry is rich with vitamin C and is a recommended food for reducing blood pressure. Called ‘amla’ in Hindi, Indian people used gooseberry extensively in their food. The raw gooseberry can be eaten as it is and is one of the best methods to consume.

Garlic is a species of onion family having scientific name of Allium sativum L. Garlic has been used since long time in the human history for cooking as well as for medicinal purposes. It has a characteristic pungent, spicy flavor that mellows and sweetens considerably with cooking.

Garlic acts as a vasodilator and dilates blood vessels thereby helps to reduce blood pressure. Garlic contains adenosine, which promotes vasodilatation and is also a muscle relaxant. If we can eat raw garlic, that is better and recommended. That will be little tough and if not possible to eat raw garlic, don’t hesitate to add them to your food.

The best thing with the natural and vegetable food is they won’t harm our body with side effects. Blood pressure is an outcome of mental stress and due to high blood pressure our body will be in danger. Act before both happens. Whether the high blood pressure or mental stress, what comes first is not important in our life. We have to act to prevent both, and if that is possible through food, why to hesitate a change in the menu?

Coriander seeds for Lowering the blood cholesterol

One of my Japanese friend was surprised to see the coriander leaves, when we friends joined for a party at a Thailand restaurant at Tokyo. For persons suffering from high blood cholesterol and related pressure problems, coriander is a good suggestion.

Coriander seeds can be put in to water and boil to make it suitable for drinking. I thought already I became elder at the age of 36 itself.

Most common form of artritis is osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Joint stiffness is the characteristic of this illness. Pain in joints, especially when in motion or when bearing weight is experienced. Generally joints of the fingers, knees, hip and spine are affected. I had some these symptoms and doubted that I have rheumatoid arthritis.

Several types of anti-inflammatory treatments ranging from aspirin to steroid therapy have been found to bring relief. However, no single cure can be pointed for arthritis. The pain is so severe that the patient over a period of time will get used with the pain.

If the patient is obese, doctors will advise to reduce the body weight. This will help to reduce the stress on joints while standing and walking.

Side effects of the drug taken to reduce the pain such as aspirins or steroids are seen in many patients, such as gastric irritation or even ulceration. In these case, protein and alkali mineral foods may be given to abate these side effects.

If sodium retention is observed, mild sodium restriction in the form of a 1000 milligram sodium diet will be prescribed by the doctor. Now she is one month old and we have been referring articles and books for getting better knowledge on feeding our new born bbay. Elders do not agree with us for the idea of collecting tips from internet. They have their own method for feeding infants.

However, we have done our homework before the baby is born. We know that our baby will grow rapidly in the first year of her life. Therefore her energy requirement during the first one year will be very high. The recommended intake is 120 cals/kg body weight during the first six months and 100 cals/kg body weight from six months to one year.

Rapid growth will also demand higher intake of protein. Easily digestible protein supplied through breast milk is the recommended one. Mother's milk is always an elixir of our life!

A protein intake of 2.3 to 1.8 g/kg body weight during the first six months and 1.5 to 1.8 g/kg body weight during the next six months is advisable.

Simple carbohydrates can be fed initially since amylase (the enzyme which digests starch) is not produced at that stage. Amylase will starts functioning as feeding of starch starts in the third or fourth month. Feed more fluids as thesse are required for the urinary excretion.

Liquid or semi-liquid food should be given until teeth development. Supplemenation with iron, vitamins and minerals, specially calcium and phosphorous is required for the baby as she does not have stock of such minerals. Such minerals and vitamins can be given in the form of drops or liquid oral suspension. After some months, this can be mixed with milk or fruit juices. But take care of the old proverb that 'excess of anything is poison'. Even vitamins and minerals in excess too!

Always remember to feed your baby with breast milk as possible as you can. Breast milk is the ideal and preferred milk for an infant. Some circumstances does not allow breast feeding. When mother has to resume her work after delivery, breast feeding may become a trouble. It was on 1994 July I first experienced Typhoid. High fever associated with body weakness are symptoms. The body temperature rises like anything and the patient will fear to realize the high temperature on the body.

Generally the high temperature cause significant damage to the nutrition status of a peron's body. Doctor's prescribe anti-biotic tablets to curb the fever. During Typhoid, a person suffers from protein loss and that is the reason normally people will reduce their weight drastically after a typhoid. I was around 70 kg before Typhoid and reduced to 62 kg.

Along with protein losses, glycogen stores of the body are depleted to a very large extent and the water balance also will be affected more severely. The side effect of anti-biotic tables is that it kills the beneficial symbiotic bacterial flora of our intestines.

The worst hit parts of our body are the intestines. Intestines will get inflamed and irritated due to Typhoid. In many cases diarrhoea may be a frequent complication due to Typhoid. Sufficient care must be taken during Typhoid as it may lead to ulceration of the intestines which will be further complicated with bleeding and the intestine may perforate in the ultimate cases which will result in death casaualties.

Even if the patient resist to take food during Typhoid it is advisable to tempt him to take food as the empty stomach will worsen the situtation and helps the ulceration of the intestines.

The diet during Typhoid can be similar to those given during short fevers. The only thing is you should keep away from irritating dietary fibers. A whole-grain cereals or cereal products will help much.

Leafy vegetables, raw vegetables and fruits must be kept away from the diet as this contains lot of fibers.

Tender meat, fish and poultry, potatoes, soft cooked vegetables are generally advised by doctors during Typhoid. Such food will not put any strain on the afftected intestines. Simple cooked food without excessive fat and spices will help the patient recover faster from Typhoid.

And ofcourse, the support of dear ones, as in any case of the physical weakness will boost up the faster recovery ! So, take care of your beloveds !

Eye cells may hold key to sleep-wake cycles

From the desk of Poor publishers,

Sleepiness can be controlled by a set of nerve cells in the eye, tests on mice suggest, offering a new target for drug developers that may lead to better sleeping pills, British scientists said.

Light levels have long been known to affect alertness, which is why dimly lit rooms lead people to feel drowsy. But the biological mechanism for this has been unclear.

Now, Oxford university researchers have discovered that so called retinal ganglion cells play a key role. In mice, where these cells are turned off genetically, the effects of light on sleep and alertness is completely abolished.

Scientists have discovered a new pathway that modulates sleep and arousal. Scientists believe that if they can mimic the effect of light pharmacologically they could turn sleep on and off. Many drugs have been developed to modify sleep-wake cycles, creating a multibillion-a-year sleeping pill market. But the action of current medicines is relatively crude and the drugs have side effects.

By targeting the specific mechanism controlling the action of retinal ganglion cells, it may be possible in the future to develop much more sophisticated treatments. The researchers were able to track the sleep pathway to the brain, showing that two sleep inducing centers there were directlty activated by the cells.

The research however, is still at an early stage and scientists have yet to establish if the same processes affecting the back to front world of the mouse will work in humans. Because mice are nocturnal, the effects seen in the animal tests were opposite to those that would be expected in humans.

Mice normally sleep when it is light and wake up in the dark. But those mice in which the light sensitive cells were turned off stayed wide awake when the lights were on. - reports Reuters.

Discussion on Obesity and Type II diabetes

The old saying holds true for ever that Health is the Wealth. Health is the biggest asset which requires proper care and nurture.

A physically fit and strong body gives mental and physical confidence whereas an obese physical structure makes you dull and pessimistic. Obesity breeds other diseases and makes our existence in the world and life uncomfortable and unpleasant. It also results emotional suffering which is one of the most painful side effect of obesity.

Obesity is not just a beauty or not good looking problem. It's a health trouble. People who are grossly overweight are twice as likely to die prematurely as compared to a person with average-weight. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions such as diabetes and strokes to mention a few.

A weight increase of 10-20 pounds drastically increases the risk of developing Type II diabetes in comparison to individuals who have not gained weight. As per studies, over 80 percent of people with diabetes are overweight or obese. This may account for the newly invented word, diabesity, which signifies the close association between obesity and diabetes. Read with this the interesting law the Japanese government will implement soon for trimming the waists of its citizens. Japanse having waists more than 85cm may have to pay more health tax as they will be more prone to diseases !

Type II diabetes is one of most prominent ailment found in obese people. It reduces body's ability to control blood sugar. It is a major cause of early death, heart disease, stroke, and blindness. Overweight people are twice as likely to develop Type II diabetes compared to normal people. Type II diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. In Type II diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use sugar. Sugar is the basic fuel for the cells in the body, and insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. The chances of its occurrence can be reduced by losing weight and exercising more.

If you have Type II diabetes, losing weight and becoming more physically active can help control your blood sugar levels. Increasing your physical activity may also allow you to reduce the amount of diabetes medication intake.

Losing a small amount of weight can also reduce your chances of developing heart disease or a stroke and make your body ailment free. Studies show that you can improve your health by losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds.

Weight reduction will decrease the chance of developing several fatal ailments like heart disease, blood pressure, and levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides. So take the first step towards weight loss and make your life a healthy and energetic one. Do not keep it for tomorrow, let us start it now !

Do not take Medicines with Juices

Orange and apple juices can harm the body's ability to absorb certain medications and make the drugs less effective, says a Canadian study released recently.

The research showed that these juices could decrease the effecitveness of certain drugs used to treat heart diseases, cancer, organ-tansplant rejection and infection, potentially wiping out their beneficial effects.

Mr. David Bailey, a professor of clinical pharmacology with the University of Western Ontario and leader of the study was the first researcher to identify grapefruit juice's potential to increase the absorption of certain drugs two decades ago, possibly turning some doses toxic.

Recently they discovered that grapefruit and these other fruit juices substantially decrease the oral absorption of certain drugs undergoing intestinal uptake transport. The concern is loss of benefit of medications essential for the treatment of serious medical conditions.

Health volunteers took fexofenadine, an antihistamine used to fight allergies, along with either a glass of grapefruit juice, a glass of water with naringin, which gives the bitter taste to grapefruit juice or plain water.

Those who drank the grapefruit juice absorbed only half the amount of fexofenadine, compared to those whio drank plain water.

Researchers said the water with naringin served to block a key drug uptake transporter, called OATP1A2, involved in shuttling drugs from the small intestine to the blood stream. Blocking this transporter reduces drug absorption and neutralizes their potential benefits.

By contrast, drugs whose levels are boosted in teh presence of grapefruit juice appear to block an important drug-metabolizing enzyme, called CYP3A4, that normally breaks down drugs. Among the drugs affected by consumption of grapefruit, orange and apple juices are: etoposide, an anticancer agent; beta blockers (atenolol, celiprolol, talinolol) used to treat high blood pressure and prevent heart attacks; and certain antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, itraconazole).

The drug-lowering interaction also affected cyclosporine, a drug taken to prevent rejection of transplanted organs, and more drugs were expected to be added to the list as the research continued. Mr. David Bailey said, patients should consult with a doctor about taking medications with juice, and stick to plain water when taking most medications.

Partly Digested Sugars - Sugar Alcohols

Some sugars are not completely digested. You may recognize these sugars by the terms "sugar alcohol," "polycols," or "sugar replacers." Because they really do not contain any alcohol, the term "sugar alcohol" is often confusing. However, you will see this term used in the nutrition facts panel of a food label under Total Carbohydrate.

If there is only one sugar alcohol in a food, the specific ingredient name is listed (e.g., sorbitol). If two or more are used, the panel says "sugar alcohol." The individual names are always listed in the ingredient list. They include sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, isomalt, malitol, lactitol, and hydrogenated starch hydrolysates. You can find these in a variety of foods including candy, cookie, throat lozenges, and chewing gum.

Main points to know. There are three main points to know about sugar alcohols:

*They are often found in foods that are labeled "sugar-free" or "no added sugar," but the food may still contain calories from other carbohydrates.
*They may cause stomachaches and excess gas.
*They should not be used to treat hyopglucemia.

We do not have enzymes in our mouth to start the digestion of sugar alcohols, so unlike other caloric sweetners, sugar alcohols will not cause tooth decay. In fact, since they are not completely digested, they have pluses and minuses. On the positive side, they produce a smaller rise in blood glucose than regular sugar, and give you additional low-carbohydrate food choices. On the negative side, they can cause stomachaches, excess gas, and even diarrhea because they are partially digested. Eating smaller amounts of such foods at one time can help eliminate the problem.

Sugar alcohols are sometimes added to food products that are sweetened with a low-calorie sweetener because they add bulk (filler) and few calories. When you take sugar out of a food, you not only lose the sweet taste, you also lose bulk. The sugar alcohols replace the bulk while the low-calorie sweetener replaces the sweet taste (since sugar alcohols are only half as sweet as other caloric sweeteners).

Additional points to know. There are two additional points that those who adjust their before-meal insulin based on the carbohydrate content of the meal should know.

* Sugar alcohols produce a slower and lower rise in blood glucose than other sugars or starches.

* On average, only half of the sugar alcohol carbohydrate needs to be counted into your carbohydrate grams, because only half of it is digested.

Because sugar alcohols are only partially digested, only half the carbohydrate grams listed next to the specific sugar alcohol (e.g., sorbitol) or the general term "sugar alcohol" are available to raise your blood glucose. To get the true amount of available carbohydrate from a food with a sugar alcohol, subtract half of the sugar alcohol grams from the Total Carbohydrate amount.

As an example:
Divide sorbital grams by two: 16 / 2 = 8

Subtract 8 from 19 = 11 grams of total carbohydrate that are available to raise your blood glucose.

For some people, this will be a small amount of carbohydrate and will not make a difference. For others, however, it may help with blood glucose control, and choosing the amount of food to eat.

Vitamins, Minerals & Diabetes

Many vitamins and minerals have a role in blood glucose control. It is important that your body has enough of these vitamins and minerals so it can work as efficiently as possible. You may wonder if you need to take a supplement of any special vitamin or mineral to help improve your blood glucose control. Right now, the American Diabetes Association states there is little research indicating that taking supplements of individual nutrients or blends of nutrients actually improves blood glucose control. More research need to be done before we can confidently make that type of general recommendation.

However, there are times when you might want to consider taking a multivitamin plus mineral supplement, or take supplements of particular vitamins or minerals. Three such times follow:

a) When your diabetes is not in good control. Research shows that this may cause some nutrient deficiencies. A multivitamin plus mineral supplement is recommended.

b) When you are restricting calorie or carbohydrate intake. Because you may be eating less food or a smaller variety of foods, it may be difficult to consume the mix of foods you need to meet your nutrient needs. For some, taking a multivitamin plus mineral supplement is like an insurance policy; you are adding a little extra protection.

c) When you have difficulty consuming certain foods such as those high in calcium or iron and need a supplement to meet your daily requirements. However, do not consume more than 100% of the daily value (listed as %DV on the supplement label) unless you have discussed this with your dietitian and doctor.

If you choose to take a supplement, know that the supplement cannot replace a healthy diet. By choosing a variety of foods with an emphasis on whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and low-fat foods you can often meet your nutrient needs without supplements. It is the combination of foods you eat and the combination of nutrients the food provides that help your body work smoothly and efficiently.

Frequency for Check on Blood Glucose Levels

How often you check your blood glucose level will depend on the type of diabetes you have, how your diabetes is treated, and whether you are meeting your blood glucose goals. It also depends on how often you want to or are able to check your blood glucose.

Those who take three to four injections of insulin a day or use an insulin pump will check their blood glucose most often. This is because they adjust the amount of insulin they take based on their blood glucose levels. Checking usually takes place before each meal, sometimes two hours after a meal, and at bedtime (before a snack, if you have one). Those who take two injections of insulin a day usually check their blood glucose less frequently, often just before breakfast and dinner, and at bedtime.

Blood glucose checking regimens vary the most for people with type 2 diabetes who do not take insulin. When first diagnosed, it is helpful to know when your blood glucose is most elevated and how your body reacts to its usual food intake, so checking two to four times a day for several weeks is helpful. The times to check are before breakfast, before and two hours after your main meal, and at bedtime (before a snack if you have one). Then, depending on your treatment plan, if your blood glucose levels are nearing your target goals, you may want to do less checking. At this time, many people will check either twice a day at different times on different days, or three to four times a day once or twice a week.

Always consider increasing your frequency of blood glucose checks if you experience a new schedule, different physical activity, an illness, frequent low blood glucose episodes, a diabetes medication change, a new medication, dental work, or surgery.

Cabbage Soup for Dieting

The Cabbage Soup diet is one of the most famous diets around. Most people interested in dieting have certainly heard of this one. An incredibly large number of them have actually tried some version of this diet. Since no man has ever claimed to be the inventor, there is no definitive Cabbage Soup diet, but rather a bunch of versions going in and out of style in ladies magazines and on the Internet.

Every real or fake health care expert who tried to promote this diet has either added or replaced existing features, which means that aside from the basic cabbage soup you can expect to see a wide range of other foods, although nothing spectacular. The same goes for every other fad diet that's ever been promoted. They all focus on one thing and try to promote it as nothing short of a miracle.

The biggest issue with the Cabbage Soup diet is that it's little more than hype. Some people claim that cabbage leaves have fat burning properties, but that has never been scientifically proven. Still others say that anyone could shed a cool 10 pounds in a single week by sticking to this diet, which is not true. And besides, losing 10 pounds a week is definitely not healthy for you.

There's no magical ingredient in cabbage that can help you shed weight like there's no tomorrow. This diet is based on the simple idea that if you starve yourself by drinking a lot of cabbage soup and some water on the side you will lose weight. The trick is to keep your stomach filled with cabbage soup in order to keep hunger away while the body burns fat to maintain itself. And the same goes for every fad diet or fast weight loss scheme; they are all based on starvation.

The early version cabbage soup diet featured nothing else than the basic soup. Recent versions have added fruit, vegetables, skimmed milk, lean meat or brown rice to the eating plan in order to help people stick to it for a longer time. Dieters are not allowed any alcohol. The only drinks allowed beside the cabbage soup are water and unsweetened fruit juices. The soup itself is based on cabbage, onions (or onion soup mix), tomatoes, green peppers, celery, carrots and mushrooms. There are some variations even here, but nothing important.

Problem is that many people cannot stick to a diet that has them starving every day. If you have to study or go work or engage in any sort of physical or mental activity, you need energy and cabbage can't give you that. Another issue is the fact that most of the weight lost through this diet comes from water and muscle mass, instead of fat. This means that one week after the end of the diet, the dieter still has most of the initial fat on and a good chance of replacing all the lost muscle mass with even more fat. The bottom line: cabbage soup is not a good idea for fast weight loss.

How to reach to a healthy and beautiful smile

Aloe Vera is renown for its' potency to soothe all sorts of disorders. Its' historic use links it to beauty care routine or to more slight sores, such as sunburns, scratches, or small injuries. It was not until lately that its' more significant curing virtues have been discovered and proven. People suffering from serious diseases who have underwent a treatment with Aloe products showed that these products were satisfactory enough and surprisingly efficient. One of their many applications regards teeth care or general dentistry.

Contemporary society seems to stress teeth care as a crucial point of our life, both from a hygienic reason and an aesthetic one. Digestion begins in the mouth due to the chemical action of various substances located there and also because of the more mechanical function of teeth. Chewing should never be understated. Moreover, the cultural significance of smile seems to amplify the urge to pay attention the quality and the state our teeth are in. Almost all toothpaste commercials underline the health aspect and the visual side of a vigorous dentition. So, if you want to ensure a reliable starting point for your digestion, or if you want to display - or at least not to be embarrassed by - your smile, you should pay a little attention to your dentist's suggestions.

How do Aloe products affect our teeth, and why should we choose them over the classical toothpastes? If we learned a little about the general properties of Aloe, we should already know that it prevents infection caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, it stimulates cell regeneration and has a general purifying action, not to mention its' calming effect. Therefore, Aloe is an excellent solution to a range of mouth problems, like gingivitis, peridontitis, stomatitis, bad breath, reduces the possibility of plaque, not to mention the care it takes of the soft, fragile tissues in the mouth. Obviously, a great amount of benefits that usual products can only pretend to guarantee.

Now, how does Aloeride deal with oral hygiene, considering all we have stated about the Aloe products in general? Most of the Aloe products designed for dentistry come in traditional shapes, that is, toothpaste, gel, sprays. On the other hand, the way Aloeride stands as a health product is not at all similar to those. The technology used to process Aloeride Aloe Vera extract capsules fits very well its' goal, that is, to preserve the active ingredients and to avoid tampering withthem. This is why we these tiny capsules contain a certain amount of Aloe powder. Can these capsules fit the specificity of teeth care?

The logo behind Aloeride is that a genuine treatment should work from the inside to the outside. What is visible to the eye is always grounded on an invisible process developed underneath the surface of what is observable. Aloeride Aloe Vera products work on the immunity system, thus generating an overall protection for the entire organism, teeth included. A strong reason for using these capsules is that, compared to common other products, it avoids involving certain
ingredients assumed to alter the quality of Aloe extract. Though these elements - Sorbitol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Carrageenan and so on - do not harm the tooth in itself, they inhibit the effects Aloe is supposed to have. So, a toothpaste boasting with its' Aloe ingredient is virtually an ordinary one, as the extract is in such a degree altered by the other parts of the paste that it remains inactive.

Taking care of teeth is one of the many objectives Aloeride has. It is coherent with a more general goal, that is, to offer a feeling of general state of well-being. While or after using Aloe capsules one should no longer need to care about mouth problems - but it doesn't mean daily hygiene should be abandoned, on the contrary, it should be maintained - and should be free to charmingly smile whenever the occasion occurs.
